The finish was fought out by the two least experienced runners in the field with LYRIC OF LIGHT coming out on top in a quick time to record back-to-back successes in the race for Godolphin following White Moonstone's victory 12 months ago. Semmayel took the field along at a fair pace before quickening passing the three pole but Russell Price's manoeuvre was largely ignored by the field and Clive Brittain's filly was swamped with well over a furlong to run. Lyric Of Light had made smooth progress between runners to take up the running with a furlong and a half to run. She drifted to her right immediately on hitting the front, coming close to Fallen For You, and the pair continued to drift over to the stands' side rail causing an inquiry into possible interference. However, she never looked like relinquishing her advantage and there was a good deal to like about the manner of her success. She has no big-race entries but connections will reportedly look at the Marcel Boussac and the Fillies' Mile and would merit respect wherever she turned up with connections having no shortage of options in this division. Fallen For You had created a big impression when winning a Newmarket maiden and was popular in the market for her trainer who had won this prize with Rainbow View and Playful Act in recent years. She still showed signs of inexperience, running around when put under pressure, and looks more of a galloper than her conqueror which is no surprise given their respective pedigrees. She is entitled to improve for this outing and has the scope to develop next season when she should stay further. Samitar provides a fair indication to the depth of the form with the Albany winner running a fair race on her first try beyond six furlongs. She travelled well and made her challenge at around the same time as the first two home but was readily outpointed inside the final furlong by two smart fillies. She did, however, run on well enough to get the better of Regal Realm who had looked good value for more than the winning margin when overcoming trouble in running to win the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood. She found herself a little short of room approaching the furlong but was already under strong pressure at the time and may have found the step up to a mile beyond her. That said, she didn't impress with the way she travelled as she had at Goodwood and Ascot and it's possible that this came too soon for her and the Fillies' Mile - for which she's entered - is only another fortnight away. Everlong is also entered for that Group One contest and is clearly held in high regard but is flying too high at present; she shapes as though she'll get further next season and wasn't knocked about here. Na Zdorovie had taken three attempts to get off the mark and the form of her maiden win had taken a knock when the runner-up was beaten at Wolverhampton on Thursday night. She is closely related to Guineas fourth Slim Shadey and connections will undoubtedly be keen to try and pick up some Black Type either this season or next but she will need to be found easier opportunities than this. Switcher was three lengths behind Samitar at Royal Ascot before finishing third at Deauville over seven furlongs. She was beaten before stamina became an issue here and finished further behind Samitar than at Ascot suggesting that she didn't give her running.
