An impressive victory from BRONTERRE on his second racecourse outing having won a Salisbury maiden on debut and a Dewhurst entry suggests that he is held in high regard. Held-up in rear off a slow pace, he raced a shade keenly but quickened well between horses and showed a good turn of foot to readily put daylight between himself and the chasing pack. Out of a seven furlong winner from a smart family, this 110,000 guineas purchase looks yet another smart prospect for his powerful yard. Justineo was a warm order following an encouraging fourth in the Gimcrack (which had worked out well) and that form set the standard. He moved through the race well enough but was quickly found wanting as the pace quickened and looked fairly laboured; this was disappointing. He was trying the trip for the first time but stamina shouldn't have been an issue and nor should the ground. He has a string of big-race entries but will need to leave this effort behind if he's to take them up. He only just held on for second from Nayarra who had previously finished a half length behind Regal Realm in the Prestige Stakes. She is still a maiden but has proved a useful and consistent filly for her yard and would be a warm order to open her account if dropped in grade. Red Aggressor bumped into a couple of fair sorts in maidens before finishing a good ninth in the Coventry. He had little trouble winning a Wolverhampton maiden after that but was found wanting on this step back up in class. Sixx weakened out rather tamely having made the running and looks short of this level at present. My Lucky Liz ran freely and wide coming round the bend into the straight and failed to land a meaningful blow on this step up in class. She had finished well on her last start over six suggesting that a step up in distance could suit and she is worth another chance at the trip, possibly back on a firmer surface on which she has done all of her racing to date but will need to settle better than she did here.
