A winning return for the Cheltenham Champion Chase winner but a fortuitous one. Rubi Light progressed markedly for the switch to chasing last season and signed off with a fine third in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham on ground that was deemed to be faster than ideal. He jumped well out in front building up a clear advantage before being given a breather ahead of the turn for home; that allowed the field to close but he easily opened up a commanding advantage and was en route to recording an impressive success only to get the last all wrong and take a crashing fall. Connections are keen to take the winner on again in the Champion Chase at Down Royal next month providing that he comes out of this race in one piece. SIZING EUROPE looked a little rung-rusty in the early stages of the contest and failed to jump with his usual fluency. He had been beaten on his seasonal reappearance last term but ran a far better race that day than he did here and this was a disappointing performance with neither the conditions nor the trip plausible excuses although his jockey did report that he slipped into a couple of fences. He, too, will head to Down Royal where he will be given another chance to prove that he stays three miles and connections will be hoping to see a much improved performance. Coolcashin had any amount to find on the figures with the winner but ran a fine race as he had done when filling the same position in this contest 12 months ago. The ten year old subsequently struggled in the face of some stiff tasks last term and may need his sights lowered this time around if he's to build on this return.
