A remarkable performance from DABIRSIM on his first run over seven furlongs and he, ultimately, retained his unbeaten record with something to spare but his supporters must have had some anxious moments with Frankie Dettori caught out of his ground with the field having ignored the front-running Salure. The Hat Trick (champion Japanese miler at four) colt quickened really impressively when asked to go about his work to get his jockey out of trouble and looks a real prospect. He was a shade fortunate that the gaps remained on the inside having committed to that route but it proved to be the right decision by Dettori who was winning his 500th Group Race. He had been equally impressive when winning the Prix Morny prior to this and, in a year where no juvenile colt has stamped their mark on the season, looks the best of his generation in Europe. Connections will leave him in both the French and English Guineas but it's surely the domestic version that will make most appeal and he rates an exciting prospect. Sofast had finished four lengths behind the winner at Deauville before winning a Group Three from Mac Row and American Devil over course and distance. He may have finished closer to the winner and been a little short of room himself but there was no doubting the supremacy of Dabirsim. However, he is progressing with every start himself, this represented another step forwards and he is a useful prospect in his own right and the step up to a mile should hold no fears despite the speed on his dam's side. Salure was ignored in front and nearly stole the race as a result; as admirable as this performance was, his form in Italy suggests that he is nothing out of the ordinary and, in all likelihood, his proximity to the winner flatters him. Veneto was a four-race maiden coming into the race and ran as well as can have been expected but it was disappointing that American Devil couldn't land a blow with the quicker ground expected to suit better than the soft conditions he encountered at Deauville. Fort Bastion was another searching a first success although he had been favourite to win the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket where connections were unhappy with the ride that he received; his form has taken a few knocks and his sights need to be lowered for the time being.
