Some smart performers have won this race with Time For Rupert preventing Paul Nicholls from completing a hat-trick 12 months ago but the Ditcheat handler was back on top with JOIN TOGETHER following in the steps of Inchidaly Rock and What A Friend. He had looked a little on the slow side when rather grinding out victory on his chase debut at this track last month with his trainer suggesting that he was more likely to line up in the four miler at the Festival rather than the RSA but connections were tempted to revise that view following this performance having felt that he had improved considerably. That is undoubtedly the case but it's also fairly easy to pick holes in the form of this contest and considerably stiffer tasks await further down the line. Mossley - who had beaten the winner over hurdles on this card last year - jumped better than he had on his debut at Kempton but his fencing still left something to be desired. It's to his credit that he appeared to be travelling the better of the three approaching the second last but he didn't get up the hill as well as his rival. He needs more education and may prove more effective over an easier three miles at present. Champion Court also ran like a non-stayer despite clawing back Mossley after the last. Second to Grands Crus last time, he jumped well in rear and moved into the race travelling strongly but he pecked at the second last and that error appeared to knock the stuffing out of him. It's not to say that he won't stay in time and he's probably not as good as the two that finished in front of him but he looks better over shorter at present. There are more races to be won with him but he's short of top class and won't find life easy from his handicap mark so connections will need to pick and choose his races with care. Wetherby winner Fists Of Fury had cried enough at the top of the hill and will find easier opportunities than this but he does provide his owners - who have a remarkable depth of top chasing talent at their disposal - with a guide to the British form. Traffic Article had been well placed to win three times in the summer and was making little impression when falling on this steep step up in class.
