Finian's Rainbow and Big Buck's have been the two most recent winners of this race and hopes will be high that the lightly raced CEDRE BLEU can go on to achieve a good deal more in time but that may not be until next season or beyond as he looks as though he will benefit from another year on his back. His trainer duly reported that there were no grand plans for him this season and that he had endured a few problems since his second to Spirit Son at Exeter in February. He jumped well to begin with as they set off at a decent clip but became more hesitant after colliding with Lidar at the cross-fence where he jumped left and Lidar to his right. He never looked like falling but made an awkward shape over the first two fences in the straight and was careful at the next two before showing a good attitude to outbattle Bellvano. He can be expected to improve for both the run and the experience, this was just his fourth start after all, but he remains very much a work in progress and still has to run on ground better than good to soft (and this did ride fairly testing) so would have plenty to prove if turning up at the spring festivals. It looked for all the world as though he was going to finish a decent second as Bellvano stalked him down the straight under a motionless Barry Geraghty only for the eight year old to find nothing off the bridle. This is far from the first time that Bellvano has shown signs of temperament and he's not one to trust although he does have some useful bits of form to his name; it will be interesting to see if connections try him in headgear at some stage. Lidar ran well enough in the face of a stiff task but was strongly ridden from some way out to hold his position. He stays further than this and may be able to pick up another win back in handicap company having been set stiff tasks on his last two starts. Handicap company is also where Ballyallia Man is likely to be seen to best effect and his trainer can be relied upon to place him well when making the switch. He was predictably outclassed but posted a clear round and has some useful form to his name between the flags in Ireland, he could pick up a small race or two if translating that form to racing under Rules.
