RUBI LIGHT registered a commanding second victory of the season as he made all the running to win unchallenged. Andrew Lynch began to turn the screw on his rivals from a mile out and had a wide advantage from the sixth last that never looked for a moment like being closed down. He was in a different parish to the rest on the run to the home turn and his only notable error came when he walked through the top of the second last - and that can be put down to a loss of concentration having been out on his own for so long. The Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival is next - for which he is favourite - and connections seem extremely optimistic about his chance of winning that if he gets very testing ground. His claims would not be quite as strong on better going but at least he goes there at the very top of his game. The remainder were battling it out for minor honours from a long way out and Chicago Grey fared best. His long term aim is the Grand National at Aintree and this was not a bad display in the context over a trip shorter than ideal despite the testing nature of the race. Davy Condon got his wires crossed on him at the last and was nearly unseated but managed to ride him out on the run-in having lost his irons. A stop off at Cheltenham on the way before Liverpool is on the cards and he looks a likely type for the big one in April. Apt Approach could never land a blow so his little winning spree came to an end. He and Trafford Lad got pretty tired in the closing stages and may take some time to recover from their exertions. The Fonze was in touch with the pelaton when crashing out at the third last.
