A thoroughly deserved win for the consistent PREMIO LOCO, who had every right on the book to run a big race despite his advancing years. George Baker had him smartly out from an unfavourable wide draw and settled nicely just behind the pace - not a great one set by Our Joe Mac - on the rail. Baker had to angle him off the rail and around Circumvent on the home bend but once in the clear, he showed much the best turn of foot at the furlong pole to get to the front. This was his first win beyond a mile and his next outing is reportedly the Earl Of Sefton over nine furlongs at Newmarket's Craven Meeting. A continuation of the current dry spring would be massively to his advantage as he needs top of the ground. Circumvent had the run of the race from a decent position all the way round after he got out his wide stall well. This was a decent return but he is not the easiest to place from his rating. Cai Shen gets plenty of credit having been forced to race wide in mid-division all the way around. It says much for his ability that he was able to still get into the the thick of things in the closing stages having still been widest of all off the home turn. His last two wins have been on big galloping tracks at Newbury and Doncaster so a return to a similar configuration where he can be wound up from some way out will help his cause. The front three were clear of Black Spirit, who was poised on the home turn but could only find the one pace up the straight. Sooraah arrived on the back of a couple of runs at Meydan and she was also tackling 10 furlongs for the first time. Ryan Moore had her in mid-division but the pace was not really strong enough - she made some late progress to pick off a few rivals but the front rank never looked like coming back to her. It would be wrong to say she did not conclusively stay this distance but a drop back to shorter would be in her favour. Riggins could never land much of a blow from the mid-division while Our Joe Mac soon backed out of things in the first-time visor once swallowed up off the home turn. Junoob had beaten Loyalty into third in the Listed trial for this event but both were put in their place by a better class of animal while Myplacelater, making her debut for Richard Fahey, raced in last place and made little impact. She is better than this and may be worth another chance when tried back on turf.
