Somewhat of a surprise as the first two home had won just one race between them from 19 starts with the winner ESENTEPE not even holding an entry in the Qipco 1000 Guineas back at Newmarket next month. Richard Hannon's inmate had the advantage of a recent run on the all-weather and she made the best of her way home having raced prominently before hitting the front coming out of the Dip. This was a nice pot to win and she holds an entry in the Musidora Stakes at York. The runner-up gave weight away all round courtesy of a Group 1 success in Italy last backend and almost reeled in Esentepe. She did very little wrong and has a decent attitude so it will more than likely take her take her chance in the 1000 Guineas, although she seems to be playing for minor honours. Her stable companion Lady Gorgeous finished well from the mid-division after she began to find top gear from the two-furlong pole. This was a nice comeback and there are races to be won with her this season. Lily's Angel was caught out wide for much of the trip but was another to stick to her guns well once under pressure while the biggest eyecatcher was the once-raced Starscope. Wearing a hood for the first time, William Buick gave her plenty of time to find her feet and she did not look like she would trouble the front rank with two furlongs to travel. She picked up in taking fashion though to thread her way through rivals and connections will surely be delighted with the display. She is a Guineas entrant and although entitled to take her chance, she should blossom as the campaign progresses. Russelliana and Regal Realm never really got to grips with things on this occasion but represent powerful yards and better should be on the cards at a later date. Minidress fared best of the two Godolphin hopefuls but Sunday Times does deserve some credit having made up plenty of ground from rear down the centre of the track. The latter showed some smart form last season and should add to her tally. What's Up was not disgraced from a handicapper's mark so is worth keeping an eye on in lesser company - Excellette had by far the most early pace and sprinting looks her game for certain.
