CASPAR NETSCHER arguably brought the best form into the race having won the Mill Reef Stakes and the Gimcrack before finishing an unlucky fifth in the Middle Park. He was, however, overlooked in the market in favour of Bronterre but once again did his stable proud with a game performance. He was travelling best of all on the heels of the leaders approaching the final quarter of a mile and looked all over the winner but ultimately had to work hard for the spoils as his stamina only just lasted out on the testing ground. He is in the Guineas and will now head to Newmarket but it would be no surprise if he were to revert to sprinting later in the season. Boomerang Bob was having his first run since July and his first run beyond five furlongs and ran a fine race on his return; having already been placed at this level in France and in a Group Two he deserves to pick up a Pattern race and it would be no surprise to see him return to the continent in an attempt to do so. His connections, though, have loftier ambitions in mind and are eyeing up a tilt at a Guineas either here or in France. Bronterre was well backed for the Dewhurst where he finished fourth, beaten just over a length, and was again well supported. He's clearly held in very high regard by his powerful stable but did too much too early here and failed to get home as well as his rivals. Their opinion obviously holds plenty of water and this son of Oasis Dream may yet deliver once returned to better ground but he does have a little to prove now and could benefit from being dropped in grade for a confidence boosting success. He did, however, finish a long way clear of Rebellious Guest who, in turn, was clear of Spiritual Star. The former had his stamina to prove and pulled hard while the latter was eased once headed - both can be granted another chance to prove their worth on a quicker surface.
