PENITENT and Questioning had met earlier in the year at Doncaster and it was a very similar result here, despite the higher grade, with the former coming out on top. David O'Meara's charge travelled powerfully throughout and moved through to challenge for the lead on the bridle with two furlongs to run. He didn't exactly put the race to bed, edging to his right late on, but he always looked to be in charge. He seems to be thriving in his new surroundings and if he continues to be campaigned on ground with some give in, then he can add to this victory. It should be said that this wasn't the strongest race for the grade however. Questioning had franked the Doncaster form with a Newmarket win and he is a good yardstick for this race. He was given a more prominent ride here, but was still moving well turning for home. He battled hard when the winner moved alongside, but just couldn't find any more close home. There was a yawning gap back to the third home, which was the 116-rated Famous Name. He has a good record in April but came under pressure quite quickly here and never looked like featuring. He is yet to win above Group Three level, but this was a great opportunity with the ground not thought to be a problem; he blatantly hasn't run to his mark. His jockey commented that his mount handles soft ground, but this going was a different matter altogether; the form is to be treated with caution one cannot help but feel. Also disappointing was Dubawi Gold who was visibly restrained in the early stages. He tracked stablemate Libranno and Famous Name who took a more circuitous route early on. None of the three did any good mind you so it might have been a waste of time. He started to creep closer turning in but had a lot to do on ground far from ideal and he wasn't given a hard time when defeat was obvious. Libranno is a quick ground sprinter so this should at least have blown away some cobwebs, whilst Cochabamba is being campaigned at the wrong level.
