Verdict

Philip Hobbs: "He made a couple of mistakes down the back straight, but other than that he's jumped better than at any time in his life. I don't know why he runs so well here, and but for the mistakes he would have won easily today. He's quite talented when he puts his best foot forward. He does have the odd days when he doesn't try too hard but he was absolutely mustard today. There were some negative reports in the paper after he ran in the cross-country race at Cheltenham but he got a bit blanked in at the Canal Turn there, didn't enjoy it much and probably downed tools but, when he is good, he is very good."

Richard Johnson: "Yesterday was not a good day - everything seemed to go from bad to worse - and it's just amazing, this game. He has travelled great. He won here last year and hasn't really shown much form since then either. He obviously loves it round here and it's a great confidence boost before the National. It's an amazing place to have a winner and thanks to Philip Hobbs and his team for giving me horse after horse to ride. They are a fantastic team to ride for and I have a lot of thanks for them."

James Nash: "We were perhaps a bit unlucky as in front before the line and in front after it but well done to the winner. He jumps fantastically and David gave the horse a fantastic ride. The horse is 12 but you wouldn't know it, he's full of life every morning."

Paul Nicholls: "He's run a good race but couldn't quite get there. The horses are in good form."
