Super League: Wakefield Wildcats win 46-10 at Salford City Reds
Last Updated: 10/06/13 11:13pm
Wakefield snapped their four-game losing streak to keep them in the hunt for a play-off spot after thumping Salford City Reds 46-10 in Monday night's Super League action.
The visitors outscored their opponents by eight tries to two in a romp which leaves the Reds in trouble at the bottom.
When these teams met in March it finished in a dramatic 23-23 draw, but Brian Noblel's side took a first-half bashing and were 30-4 by the break at the Salford City Stadium.
The Wildcats were not in a very charitable mood as they went over the whitewash through eight different try scorers to send them up to tenth in the table.
Former Cronulla Sharks duo Paul Aiton and Dean Collis were amongst the scorers while Danny Kirmond, Richie Mathers, Paul Sykes, Oliver Wilkes, Ben Cockayne and Peter Fox all helped themselves to tries in what was a mauling.
Meanwhile, Lee Smith was in impressive form with the boot as he kicked seven goals to keep Richard Agar's team in with a chance of a top-half finish.
The hosts responded with tries from Danny Williams and Jodie Broughton - who scored late on with an impressive solo effort, while Lee Gaskell kicked their only goal of the match.
But it was scant consolation for the home side who stay second from bottom.
