Now the regular season has finished, the 24 Super League and Championship clubs have been split into three Super 8 groups.
These places are based on league positions.
The top eight will continue as Super League, the middle eight will be the Qualifiers and the third eight will be the Championship Shield.
Super League Teams - Top 8:
Leeds Rhinos, St Helens, Huddersfield Giants, Wigan Warriors, Castleford Tigers, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC and Catalan Dragons.
Qualifiers Teams - Middle 8:
Widnes Vikings, Hull KR, Salford, Wakefield, Leigh Centurions, Bradford Bulls, Sheffield and Halifax.
Championship Shield Teams - Third 8:
Featherstone Rovers, Dewsbury, London Broncos, Workington Town, Batley Bulldogs, Whitehaven, Hunslet Hawks and Doncaster.
Clubs will each play seven fixtures on a league basis across the Super 8s.
The top four Super League clubs will play four home matches. So for this season that is Leeds Rhinos, St Helens, Huddersfield Giants and Wigan Warriors.
In the Qualifiers, the team finishing ninth and 10th in Super League and the top two teams from the Championship will have four home matches. So for this season that is Widnes Vikings and Hull KR from Super League and Leigh Centurions and Bradford Bulls from the Championship. The top two in the Championship have the advantage over the bottom two from Super League.
In the Championship Shield, clubs finishing the regular Championship season in fifth to eighth place will have four home fixtures. So for this season that is Featherstone Rovers, Dewsbury Rams, London Broncos and Workington Town.
In Super League and Championship Shield, the competing clubs will carry over the points and scoring records from the regular season into the Super 8s, whereas the Qualifiers will start with zero points because the eight clubs are drawn from two different competitions.
After the Super 8 fixtures, the top four clubs in Super League will go into the play-offs: first v fourth and second v third. The winners of those two matches will contest the Super League Grand Final.
All eight Super League clubs are guaranteed top flight status for the following season, as are the top three clubs in the Qualifiers.
The final place in Super League for the following season will be determined by the Million Pound Game – a play-off between the fourth and fifth-placed clubs in the Qualifiers, played at the home of the fourth-placed club.
In the Championship Shield, the top four clubs enter a play-off, first v fourth and second v third, with the winners contesting the Championship Shield final.
