New Super League Chief Executive Robert Elstone to appear on Golden Point

Robert Elstone, the new Chief Executive of Super League will join the Sky Sports team on Golden Point this week, live on Sky Sports Action from 7pm on Thursday.

Former Everton FC CEO Elstone returns to Super League having previously been on the board at Castleford Tigers, while he was also involved in the initial creation of Super League.

A former assistant to Rugby Football League (RFL) chief executive Maurice Lindsay in the late 1990s, Barnsley-born Elstone comes in as the successor to Roger Draper, who left Super League in January.

Elstone left the RFL to work for chartered accountants Deloitte and also headed up Sky's football business affairs team before joining Everton in 2005, working initially as chief operating officer and, since 2009, as chief executive.

On Tuesday, Sky Sports' Brian Carney penned an open latter to Elstone in his weekly column, urging him to raise the profile of the game as a whole.

On Thursday, Carney will interview Elstone on our Golden Point show, which will also be available as a podcast after its initial airing on Sky Sports Action this Thursday, immediately before Salford take on Widnes in Super League.

Elstone has already confirmed the Super 8s will be scrapped at the end of the season, with promotion and relegation reverting to a one-up, one-down format in 2019.

And with his appointment the talk of rugby league at present, we have the first opportunity to see how the new man plans to take the elite league forward without alienating the rest of the sport.
