Wigan will have to do without Eamon O'Carroll for around 10 weeks after the prop suffered a broken foot.
The 21-year-old broke a metatarsal whilst playing for the Warriors' reserves in Friday night's clash with Salford at the Willows.
O'Carroll, who was part of Ireland's squad at last year's World Cup, had played for the first team in the first six Super League matches.
However, he was dropped from the 17-man squad to face the City Reds in favour of Paul Prescott.
There was some good news on the injury front for Wigan, though, after X-rays revealed Gareth Hock had not broken his hand as first feared.
The second-rower is expected to be fit to face Huddersfield at the JJB Stadium on Friday night.
Karl Pryce, who only returned from an ankle injury against Salford, is also hoping to recover from a hip problem in time to play against the Giants.
Utility back Cameron Phelps is also nearing a return to action from the hamstring injury he suffered in the opening week of the 2009 campaign.
