Young centre could play against Hull KR after recall from loan spell

Wigan coach Michael Maguire says he would have no problems playing youngster Josh Charnley against Hull KR after recalling him from a loan spell at the Robins. The 19-year-old centre scored five tries in as many games during his time at Rovers before being called back to the Warriors as cover for injuries. Martin Gleeson is currently out after a hernia operation and Darrell Goulding and George Carmont are also on the sidelines, meaning Charnley could battle Stefan Marsh for a place in the centres on Sunday. And Maguire insists that Charnley will not be fazed if he asked to fill in for a clash that could see Wigan clinch the Super League Leaders' Shield. "I might tap him on the shoulder and ask him for a tip on the opposition," he joked.

Dream

"It's probably a bit unusual but he's a Wigan boy through and through and, if he gets an opportunity to play for Wigan, that's his dream. "It doesn't matter what's in front of him, he'll just go out and perform the way he has been. He's a kid that really enjoys his rugby league. If the opportunity came, I know he'll definitely take it." The Australian coach is also not surprised that 2010 has been a breakthrough year for Charnley after his displays during pre-season. He added: "In pre-season he was probably one of our best performers and I knew at some stage he was going to pop up throughout the year. "He's a great kid and it's a credit to him the way he's performed when he left us. "I knew he was going to be a quality kid and I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to have him in our team. He's got a great future in the game."
