The 30-year-old full-back had joined Vikings from Hull KR 18 months ago, but now quits the club by mutual consent.
Briscoe has not appeared in Super League since Easter Monday and recently played on a dual-registration for Workington.
Widnes chief executive James Rule said: "Shaun has had limited playing opportunities this year and we have, therefore, agreed to an early release from his existing contract.
"This will enable him to pursue other options. We thank Shaun for his contribution to the Vikings and wish him the best of luck in his future career."
Briscoe began his career with home-town club Wigan and was England's first-choice full-back during the 2009 Four Nations series.
He said in a statement: "I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the Widnes fans for the support they've shown me in my 18 months at the club.
"It's been a frustrating time with injuries and not playing as much as I would like but I'd like to wish the boys and the club the very best for the future."
