The 24-year-old playmaker lost out to Robbie Farah for a spot on the bench in the Kangaroos' 28-20 victory, but he could be given a chance by head coach Tim Sheens in Saturday's clash against Fiji.
Cherry-Evans, who has one cap for his country, was gutted not to feature for Australia in the Millennium Stadium, but he is not letting his head drop after the snub.
"Any chance you get to represent your country is a huge honour," said Cherry-Evans. "It was tough (missing out against England).
"It's a difficult position to be in not playing. Everyone here, whether it's the first week or the last week, wants to be in the 17 and I was no different.
"Obviously Tim's picked a winning side so I'll have to make sure I take my opportunities when I get the chance."
Cherry-Evans is excited at playing alongside either Johnathan Thurston or Cooper Cronk should he get the nod for their weekend Group A contest against the Fijians.
"If I do get named to play in the six or seven next week I'll definitely be excited to play next to either one of those guys," he concluded.
