The Warriors forward was put on report for a grade B dangerous tackle on Roosters winger Shaun Kenny-Dowall in the first-half of the 36-14 defeat in Sydney.
Pettybourne, who failed to appear after the break due to a bicep injury, has until 11am on Tuesday to submit an early-guilty plea and avoid a hearing.
Five other players were charged by the Rugby Football League's match-review panel with foul play in round two of the First Utility Super League at the weekend.
London Broncos hooker Scott Moore is accused of a grade D offence of making dangerous contact with Salford prop Darrell Griffin during his side's 44-18 defeat by the Red Devils.
Catalan Dragons prop Julian Bousquet, who served a four-match ban last season, could be facing another lengthy lay-off after being charged with a grade D dangerous tackle on Castleford full-back Jordan Tansey in his side's 32-6 defeat on Sunday.
Bousquet will appear in front of the RFL's disciplinary committee on Tuesday, along with Moore and Hull KR prop Justin Poore and Huddersfield centre Joe Wardle, who were both cited for punching during a brawl in the game at the John Smith's Stadium on Sunday.
Poore, who was sin-binned along with Huddersfield second rower Jason Chan for his part in the fighting, is charged with a grade B offence while Wardle, who was sin-binned in the same match for a separate incident, is facing a grade A charge.
Wakefield centre Dean Collis has been charged with making grade C dangerous contact with Bradford stand-off Lee Gaskell in the first minute of the match between the Bulls and the Wildcats last Thursday.
Gaskell is facing a lay-off of up to 12 weeks after damaging his knee ligaments in the collision with Collis, who is eligible to make an early-guilty plea.
