Hull Kingston Rovers will set a new attendance record for a home derby against Hull FC in the Super League era this week when the two teams collide at the KC Lightstream Stadium.
Ticket sales for Friday’s game are now ahead of the 10,250 crowd that watched the two teams go head-to-head at Craven Park in 2011, Hull KR’s previous highest derby attendance since gaining promotion to Super League.
The showdown, which will be shown live on Sky Sports, is set to be crucial match in the battle to finish in the top eight and the 2015 derby bragging rights are also on the line, with each team having won one of the two derbies already played in Super League XX.
The Robins beat the Black and Whites away from home at Easter before Hull gained revenge at the Magic Weekend in May.
Hull KR chief executive Mike Smith said: “We’re delighted that we’ve broken our attendance record for a home derby in the Super League era.
“We’re confident that all home areas of the stadium will be sold out prior to match day so our advice if you want to come to the game is get your ticket now or face possible disappointment.
“Hull FC away sales had a slow start but are really starting to pick-up now and it would be fantastic to get the sold out signs up on the away stand too. We always say it, but selling out the game makes a real statement to the rest of the competition that this is still the biggest derby in rugby league.
“We have broken the stadium attendance record for the last two years in a row and we are going all out for this game to top the current record set in February against Leeds Rhinos.
“Friday night is all or nothing for us and it will be the most decisive derby in recent history; not only are the 2015 bragging rights up for grabs but more importantly two vital league points.”
