The 30-year-old, who will wear the No 36 shirt, has joined the Super League side following a successful trial period.
Platt will link up with new Salford head coach Iestyn Harris. a former team-mate at Bradford Bulls.
He started his career at Salford back in 2001 and had spells with Rochdale, Castleford before joining the Bulls from 2007-2013, making 143 appearances for the club.
Harris told Salford's official website: "Michael is a player who I played with a Bradford so I have good first-hand knowledge of all of his attributes.
"He has an excellent Super League pedigree after spells with the Tigers and the Bulls.
"He is going to provide us with excellent cover in the back positions right across the squad and we are looking forward to him joining up with the rest of the squad."
Platt said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me to the return to the club where I first started my rugby league career.
"There is such a great feeling about what is happening around the place and I am delighted to be part of what is going on."
North Wales Crusaders CEO Jamie Thomas commented: "We're clearly very disappointed to lose Michael Platt.
"He's been with Crusaders right through pre-season but has only made a couple of league appearances, after a long-standing injury required an operation.
"It was always a possibility he would attract the attention of a Super League club and that we would have a battle on our hands to keep him.
"Whilst this wasn't the first Super League offer to be made, we felt it was only fair to let him go as Salford is Michael's home town club and clearly they're a club in the spotlight at the moment."
