The former Bradford Bulls and London Broncos man sustained the blow in the first half against Denis Betts' men in the Rapid Solicitors Stadium clash.
Sykes departed the ground on crutches and an X-ray has now confirmed the 31-year-old will requires six weeks out while the bone heals from the fracture.
The Dewsbury-born former England international should return before the end of the super League season, however his absence is a blow to the Wildcats' play-off hopes.
The victory moved Wakefield to within two points of seventh-placed St Helens. Ex-Leeds Rhino Lee Smith could deputise in the halves during Sykes' spell on the sidelines.
