The Black and Whites have lost all four previous clashes with the Robins in the annual two-day extravaganza but go into Saturday's 219th Hull derby at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium in a rich vein of form.
They have not lost since major close-season signings Gareth Ellis and Daniel Holdsworth returned from injury and their victory at Warrington last Friday was their seventh from their last eight matches.
"Winning gives you confidence but you get your rewards for working hard and I don't think there'll be a Super League side working tougher than us," Gentle said.
"We've been building for a while and we've been able to bring Gareth and Daniel Holdsworth back into a winning team. It takes a lot of the expectation away from them so they can concentrate on their own game."
Hull KR also go into the game in a positive mood after ending their three-match losing run at the expense of Wakefield last Sunday.
Coach Craig Sandercock said: "There's not a great deal of points between the teams coming fifth right through to 10th so there are opportunities there.
"We've got to turn up every week. It was good to get a win last week. Hull have got all their big-name players back now and it was important for us to go in with a bit of confidence."
