Hull FC claimed a last-gasp 22-16 Magic Weekend win at the Etihad Stadium after video official Steve Ganson deemed Chris Green was not offside when he beat Greg Eden to a Danny Houghton kick and then crossed for the crucial try.
Ganson has since apologised for the decision which drew a furious reaction from KR boss Craig Sandercock and McDermott wants lessons to be learnt.
The Leeds head coach told Sky Sports: "We've got to control what we can control and decisions that get made by the referee and the video referee, you hope some of them go in your favour and you know some of them don't.
"But you hope it is for the right reasons. You hope some of those wrong decisions are made for the right reasons.
"There was a wrong decision there, people make mistakes, I am very aware that I make mistakes, players make mistakes, refs make mistakes. We all make mistakes on the field there is no doubt about that.
"I don't think any coach out there is after the perfect referee, it is whether they understand how to fix it and whether it is getting fixed and that is what most coaches ask for.
"Again we all make mistakes but we go through a review process and we try to improve and adapt to make sure it doesn't happen again.
"I think if everyone is aware that is what is going on with referees, I don't think it will be an issue as such."
