Rhinos playmaker looking forward to quarter-final clash

Leeds Rhinos half-back Danny McGuire is looking forward to Tuesday morning's Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-final draw. Last season's finalists secured their place in the last-eight of the completion on Sunday following a hard-fought 16-10 win over the Salford City Reds. The Headingley side could be drawn against the likes of Wigan Warriors, St Helens, Warrington Wolves, Catalan Dragons, Huddersfield Giants, London Broncos and Leigh Centurions in the draw. Leeds do not have a good record in the competition having lost five finals since their 52-16 success over the Broncos in the 1999 at the old Wembley. "We're looking forward to the draw," McGuire told the club's official website. "Any tie in the last eight is going to be tough. "There are going to be some mouth-watering tussles there so we're all looking forward to it."

Dig deep

Leeds were given a scare by Stobart Super League strugglers Salford and McGuire admits the champions had to dig deep to retain their interest in the cup. "It was a tough game really," he continued. "We expected a big game from them and we got it "It wasn't an afternoon for fast-flowing rugby, but we toughed it out. Credit to Salford, they made life very hard for us and we had to dig deep. We showed plenty of character in the second half. "Importantly we are in the hat for the next round and that is what we wanted before the game. We're happy that we're there. "I thought I was going to get over for a try late on but then I spotted Shaun Lunt on my shoulder and I was pleased when he went over. He finished it really well in the end."
