The Broncos were expected to begin their campaign on a positive note against last season's strugglers, but Denis Betts' team emerged with the points - the first time Widnes had won their first Super League game from six attempts.
Lee, a close-season signing from the Huddersfield Giants, knows Tony Rea's men should have done better on home soil following an unbeaten pre-season.
Up next for the Broncos are the Giants, who men laid down an early marker with a 40-04 success over St Helens at Langtree Park to begin their campaign.
"We're obviously disappointed with the overall performance but based on the build-up and the way we've prepared and trained, I thought we could have done things a lot better," he told the club's official website.
"Obviously it's a long season so we're not going to be too disheartened. We know we've got a lot of things to improve on next week against a tough Huddersfield team.
"It'll be a tough week training and we're back into it. We know we've got a lot of improvement and we're a better team than that.
"Looking at the results already this season St Helens have had a poor start, we've had a poor start but there's a long way to go, we'll knuckle down at training and work hard to improve."
