The under-strength visitors led 10-0 after 15 minutes thanks to tries from Ryan Hampshire and Dominic Manfredi but Rovers responded with touchdowns from Lincoln Withers, Greg Eden and Micky Paea, all converted by Michael Dobson, to lead 18-10 at half-time.
Liam Salter stretched Hull KR's lead with a fourth try and Caro struck twice to round off the victory.
Young Warriors half-back Hampshire had wriggled through Eden's attempted tackle to open the scoring and winger Manfredi shrugged off Dobson and David Hodgson to find the tryline and an early 10 point lead.
Rovers hit back on 20 minutes when Dobson's short kick hit the post protector sending Wigan full-back Jack Murphy in the wrong direction and allowing Withers to pounce.
Chasing defenders pushed Manfredi back over his own line and Withers collected the drop-out to send Eden through with a short pass 10 minutes before the interval.
With the resulting conversion, Wigan lost the lead for good and the home side began to dominate as Paea added another four-pointer for them just before half time.
Dobson's kicking game laid the visitors under seige after the interval and the Robins had to wait just four minutes after the break to extend their lead when Salter took advantage of a fumbled kick to score.
Sam Powell put a neat kick over Rovers' defence as Shaun Waite's men finally found their feet in the second half but the chase was poor and Caro took advantage to score a breakaway try on the hour.
Caro converted his own score to give his side an 18-point cushion but Wigan still had some fight in them as both Paul Prescott and Joe Burgess were held-up over the line in the final 10 minutes until Salter broke in the dying moments to send Caro in to wrap up proceedings with his second of the afternoon.
