Phil Clarke's top tries from the Super League Super 8s

Salford's Rangi Chase in action in 2015

Sky Sports' rugby league expert Phil Clarke picks his top five tries from the weekend's Super League Super 8 qualifiers.

This week, with the stakes raised in the Super 8s, we see what could be one of Salford's most important scores of the season from Rangi Chase and two of the best tries of the campaign, from Zak Hardaker and Greg McNally, battling it out for top spot.

Press play on the video above and then read below, from five to one, why they are Phil Clarke's top five tries of the week.

5 Rangi Chase v Wakefield

Any 90-metre try is special - but even more so when your team are behind by two points, the clock is ticking down, and it’s the first round of the Super 8 Qualifiers. This was almost a try to the Wildcats and a win for the visitors, but Chase transformed it into the start of Salford’s survival as a Super League side. A massive moment in their season.

4 Larne Patrick v Huddersfield

The Warriors have found a world-class halfback on their own doorstep. Once in a generation the town produces a player who is capable and confident of doing ‘special’ things. George Williams looked to be in a different class from the rest of the players on the field with this magic play - even Andy Gregory would’ve been impressed by this offload to Larne Patrick.

Huddersfield's Jermaine McGillvary crosses to score his second try against Wigan

This was a perfect example of committing defenders before the ball is passed. It’s the timing and accuracy of the six passes which makes it look such a simple try to score. Some teams move the ball on before they have tied in the men in front of them, but this looks like child’s play.

2 Gregg McNally v Hull KR

In most other weeks this would rank as number one. If you went to a country where they’d never seen rugby league before, and could only take one try to show them, this would be it. It has an offload, a chip kick and some great support play. Let’s hope that Leigh have a few more of these in them.

1 Zak Hardaker's 2nd try v Huddersfield

Leeds Rhinos full-back Zak Hardaker

My colleague Eddie Hemmings has seen a few tries in his time and said that this would win top spot this week. The ability to change direction without slowing down is a rare gift, and it’s one which the Leeds fullback uses to devastating effect. It’s the sort of try that breaks the hearts of opponents.
