Crawley departure creates vacancy

Former Castleford coach Terry Matterson has taken a position as assistant coach with the North Queensland Cowboys back in the NRL. The Australian replaces Michael Crawley who will take up a position with the Newcastle Knights in November. Matterson had a six-year spell coaching in England with the Tigers, guiding them to the Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-finals this season. However their hopes of featuring in the play-offs ended with a final day defeat at Hull KR. He played 166 NRL games for Brisbane Broncos, where he won two Premierships, and Sydney Roosters and also represented New South Wales in the 1989 State of Origin Series.
