Wigan Warriors centre Anthony Gelling will be one of the more familiar faces in head coach David Fairleigh's squad along with Keith Lulia, who has spent the last two seasons with the Bradford Bulls.
Fairleigh can call upon a wealth of talent in the NRL while another man who plies his trade in Super League is Catalan Dragons' Zeb Taia.
However, the Cook Islands have missed out on Brisbane Broncos' Alex Glenn after he was included in New Zealand's 24-man squad for this month's tournament.
The Cook Islands will draw inspiration from their 2009 performance when they knocked over Samoa to qualify for the Pacific Cup. Then the Cooks went on to defeat 2008 RLWC semi-finals Fiji to qualify for the Pacific Cup final.
Cook Islands are in Group D, where only one team can advance, of the World Cup along with hosts Wales and newcomers The United States. They will also play a cross Group match against Tonga.
