Fisher had to be carried off the field at Salford ahead of kick-off and was forced to watch on crutches as the Scots recovered from 8-0 down to claim an important win.
Scotland coach McCormack said: "We knew it was Ben's last game and we are devastated for him.
"We didn't need a lot of inspiration but, if we needed that bit extra, certainly Ben Fisher was mentioned at half-time.
"It was just one of those things, he either tore or pulled a calf. He's in a lot of pain at the moment on crutches."
As for the match, he added: "It was only 8-0 and we spoke at half-time about being composed and getting back to what we practised and we did it.
"The commitment, effort and desire shown by the players probably summed our World Cup up."
Scotland's chances of reaching the quarter-finals will depend on the result of Sunday's match between Italy and Tonga at Halifax.
