European Champions Cup kicks off this weekend and we look at the players who will be lighting up the tournament in round one.

The Champions Cup kicks off this week as the best teams across Europe bid to book their place in the final at Murrayfield next May.

Defending Champions Saracens kick-off their campaign with a tough away trip to Toulon, while last year's runners-up Racing 92 host Munster on Sunday.

We have plenty of live action this week and you can keep up to date with all the games on our live blogs. Here are just a few of the players we will be keeping a close eye on this weekend.

Wasps v Zebre (Saturday, Sky Sports 2 HD from 12.30pm)

Live European Rugby Champions Cup

Wasps will be looking for maximum points against Zebre on Saturday and this could get messy for the Italian club. Wasps are in superb form at the moment and have plenty of players on fire. Look out for wingers Frank Halai and Josh Bassett, who both should get on the score sheet.

Ashley Johnson, who switched from flanker to hooker, is back in the backrow this week. A big ball carrier for Wasps, Johnson is also massive on defence and will be looking to put some of his traditional big hits in on Saturday.

Zebre may not have won a game this season in the PRO12 but pushed Glasgow close last week. Their No 8 Andries Van Schalkwyk is a real workhorse and will do his best to try and make some inroads with his carrying against Wasps.

Connacht v Toulouse (Saturday, Sky Sports 4 HD from 5.30pm)

The defending PRO12 champions may not have had the best start to this season's campaign but wins against Edinburgh and Ulster will have given them some confidence heading into this game.

Centre Bundee Aki is the man to look out for here - a rather quick powerhouse, he will relish running at the likes of Florian Fritz and Yann David.

For Toulouse, lock Richie Gray is a world class player and has been in great form for them this season in the Top 14. On the bench, they also have Talalelei Gray (no relation to Richie!) who gives the Toulouse backrow a little more oomph and a little more balance.

Toulouse are guilty of being a bit too pedestrian at times - relying on their heavy plodders - but Talalelei has got a lot of energy and a tremendous work rate.

Northampton v Montpellier (Saturday, Sky Sports 2 HD from 5pm)

Live European Rugby Champions Cup

The battle of the No 8s between Louis Picamoles and Pierre Spies is certainly going to be interesting. Picamoles loves to carry while Spies is more of a linking and offloading No 8.

Winger George North is always exciting when he gets the ball and will be hoping his forwards can win enough front-foot ball for him to make the most of his skills.

For Montpellier, flanker Jacques Du Plessis is outstanding. He's all about the physicality and power game and is a one-man wrecking ball.

Another winger who will cause havoc if he gets enough ball is Nemani Nadolo -  a massive man who can go around or through defences.

Bordeaux-Begles v Ulster (Sunday, Sky Sports 3 HD from 12.30pm)

Live European Rugby Champions Cup

It's the battle of the Ireland No 10s as Ian Madigan and Paddy Jackson go head-to-head. They know each other pretty well and are both in excellent form for their respective clubs.

Scrum-half Baptiste Serin starts on the bench for Bordeaux but watch out when he does come on. He's got amazing pace and loves to snipe around the fringes and darting through any holes.

It's a big blow for Ulster that Charles Piutau is out injured but the good news is that Andrew Trimble is back and will skipper the side from the wing.

Racing 92 v Munster (Sunday, Sky Sports 2 HD from 3pm)

Live European Rugby Champions Cup

All the talk is about Dan Carter but Maxime Machenaud, Racing's goal kicking No 9, is so crucial for them. He is the glue that holds them together and will play a key role in their campaign.

Camille Chat is another big player for Racing - he usually comes off the bench but he starts against Munster and expect plenty of barnstorming action from the hooker.

Racing's scrum is pretty impressive and Munster will really need to get on the front foot here if they can.

Prop Dave Kilcoyne has passed his concussion assessment and will need to have a big game while CJ Stander will certainly be taking the fight to Racing 92.
