Tony Woodcock's long Test career is over after he suffered a hamstring injury during New Zealand's World Cup win over Tonga.
The prop has been ruled out for three weeks, meaning a premature end to a tournament earmarked as his last in international rugby.
Joe Moody has been called up as a replacement ahead of the knockout stages.
Just two New Zealanders - Richie McCaw and Kevin Mealamu - have won more All Blacks caps than Woodcock's 118, the first of which he earned back in 2002.
Coach Steve Hansen said: "It's obviously gutting and disappointing for Woody. He has played his last Test, New Zealanders should be very proud of him."
Woodock scored New Zealand's only try in their 2011 World Cup final win over France and crossed for a 10th international score in his final game as Tonga were beaten 47-9 on Friday.
