All Blacks flanker Liam Messam will join Toulon on a two-year contract at the end of the Super Rugby season.

The Chiefs forward replaces South Africa international Duane Vermeulen, who is returning to the Stormers.

Messam has won 43 caps for New Zealand. His last appearance was against Tonga during their 2015 World Cup-winning campaign.

The 33-year-old is the most-capped player in Chiefs history, making 161 appearances, and is expected to feature in their season opener against the Crusaders on February 24, live on Sky Sports Action.

Messam will join fellow All Blacks Malakai Fekitoa, Ma'a Nonu, Luke McAlister and Alby Mathewson at Stade Felix Mayol.
