Israel Dagg will miss the rest of the season because of injury, although the All Black has been told his knee will not require surgery.

The utility back missed several weeks of the Super Rugby season, and has played in just one Rugby Championship game for New Zealand.

The All Blacks issued a statement on their Twitter account, which reads: "Izzy Dagg will rest and rehab his knee for the rest of the year. No need for surgery."

Dagg's absence for the Kiwis should see a prolonged stay in the No 15 jersey for Damian McKenzie, while regular full-back Ben Smith remains on sabbatical and rookie Jordie Barrett is ruled out with a shoulder problem.

Meanwhile, fly-half Beauden Barrett has been brought back by the All Blacks for next week's clash in Argentina.

Barrett had been left out of the original 28-man squad for the clash against the Pumas but has now received a call-up because Lima Sopoaga has opted to remain at home to await the birth of his first child.

Barrett had originally been rested with plans to join the squad later for the final game against South Africa. New Zealand coach Steve Hansen has also added David Havili to the squad.
