Dragons secure prop on two-year contract

Newport Gwent Dragons prop Hugh Gustafson has signed a new deal with the club. The 22-year-old, who signed for the club in 2007 from the Scarlets, has put pen to paper on a two-year extension to his current contract. Gustafson has made more than 50 appearances for the Dragons and the former Wales Under-20 captain is delighted to renew terms. "I'm really pleased to have re-signed with the Dragons," he said. "The Dragons have given me the opportunity to get a lot of pitch time which has been great. The team ethos is very strong and I am really enjoying my rugby. "We have an excellent coaching team here - to be able to learn from a British and Irish Lion in Colin Charvis is a great opportunity and I feel I have developed a great deal as a player since I arrived here."

Pleased

Dragons rugby manager Robert Beale was also pleased to secure Gustafson to a new deal, suggesting the youngster could be an important fixture in his long term plans for the side. "I am delighted to have secured the signature of Hugh on a two year extension," he said. "Hugh has qualities that I personally admire in a young man and have no doubt that Hugh will figure in the plans at Rodney Parade for many years to come." Gustafson's signature follows that of team-mates Aled Brew, Wayne Evans, Martyn Thomas and Tom Riley, keeping them at Rodney Parade until the end of the 2012 season.
