New Zealander released from the final year of his contract

New Zealander Jason Spice has had the final year of contract at Bristol cancelled by mutual consent. Spice joined Bristol from Cardiff Blues following their relegation from the Premiership, however he was unable to guide the club back to the top-flight at the first attempt. Bristol have now agreed to allow the 35-year-old, who also played for the Blues, the Hurricanes and the Ospreys, to leave so he can finish his career with a fresh challenge. Coach Paul Hull confirmed: "We are sorry to lose someone of Spice's experience. His knowledge of the game is second to none and he was a popular character off the field. "He, like all of us, was disappointed with how we finished the end of season and we will be sorry to see him leave. "I am sure Jason will not be without a club for too long and will add his playing abilities and experience to a Premiership squad or one of the top Magners League teams."
