New Zealand scrum-half Jimmy Cowan has been passed fit to travel to Johannesburg for the All Blacks' Tri-Nations contest with South Africa.
Cowan was absent from his side's 20-10 win over Australia last time out after picking up a rib injury earlier in the competition.
He was named in the 26-man squad for the clash with the Springboks on August 21 with Alby Mathewson put on standby if the Highlanders captain failed a fitness test on Thursday.
But team doctor Deb Robinson says that Cowan is now fully recovered from the rib problem and is ready to return to training.
"Jimmy had a medical assessment in Christchurch today and passed that so he's fit to travel to South Africa with the team," Robinson said.
"He basically needed rest and recuperation to get over the injury, which he has had, and is now keen to get back to training."
The All Blacks have won all four of their Tri-Nations contests so far and need only a single bonus point from their final two games to secure the crown.
