Bath coach Mike Ford has confirmed he wants to sign Wales and Lions No 8 Toby Faletau.

Ford said the move is now in the hands of the Welsh Rugby Union who must make a decision on his availability status for Wales should Faletau move.

"Nothing is sorted out and we won't say anything else until he has signed. It's in the Welsh Rugby Union's hands and we'll see where that goes," Ford told BBC Radio.

"Recruitment never stops - we are looking at other players as well for this season. We're nearly finished but one or two more would be good.

"We are after world-class players. We are playing in two competitions, we've got a great European group, and we are trying to create a world-class squad where we have two international players in each position.

"We feel we need that to compete in both competitions. Will we get there this year? Probably not, but over the next few years we hope to get that without losing our homegrown talent."

Faletau has one year left on his contract with Newport Gwent Dragons.

Wales coach Warren Gatland has said that the Tonga-born back-row, who was one of the stand-out players on the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia in 2013, would remain part of his plans due to Bath approaching him, rather than the player seeking a move ‘abroad’.
