Bath move for Cheetahs ace

Bath have signed Springbok and Cheetahs scrum-half Michael Claassens.

Claassens agrees two-year deal at The Rec

Bath have ventured into the Super 14 market to capture Cheetahs scrum-half Michael Claassens. The South Africa international will link up with the team at the start of July for pre-season training after signing a two-year deal at the Rec. At just 24 years of age Claassens has already played six times for the Springboks, with his power game and reliable boot earning him plenty of admirers in the Southern Hemisphere. Bath boss Steve Meehan was certainly delighted to capture the Cheetahs man, saying: "I'm very pleased that Michael Claassens will be joining us for the new season.

Bosses

"Michael is a physical number nine who bosses a pack very well. His quick service will suit our game and I know from speaking with former team-mates of his that he is a player the squad will enjoy playing with. "Michael represents the style of character we are looking for to move Bath Rugby forward." A statement on behalf of Claassens from his agent commented: "I'm delighted to be joining Bath. "It's an exciting challenge and one I'm very much looking forward to. I have always wanted to play in Europe and to now have this opportunity is fantastic."
