The Heineken Cup kicked off in fine style over the weekend as the best teams in Europe went head-to head.

Toulouse 38 - 5 Zebre Four-time champions Toulouse opened their Heineken Cup campaign with an emphatic 38-5 victory over Zebre at the Stade Ernest Wallon stadium.

Harlequins 26 - 33 Scarlets Nick Kennedy: Defence was a real issue. Scarlets played some great rugby but Quins let them play too much. There were too many little errors that cost them. Losing your first game at home and not getting anything from it is very disappointing. There will be a lot of hard work done this week, away to Clermont next week is not easy and we have to go and try and get something from that game. Racing Métro 13 - 9 Clermont Auvergne Nick Kennedy: The Racing No 9 (Maxime Machenaud) put in huge hits on the majority of the Clermont pack. But it was the decision making at the ruck. They threw in numbers and the ball didn't come out. It's a very dangerous game to play but they turned it over or slowed the ball enough to realign their defence. Shane Horgan: Clermont can't look any further than their own gameplan. They were quite naive tactically. As a result they were relying on individual brilliance and yes, we saw some from Sivivatu. But apart from that it wasn't as if they had systematically put a plan in place to break down the Racing defence. They didn't look like doing that.

Ulster Rugby 22 - 16 Leicester Tigers Shane Horgan: I think the balance of power between these two is still even stevens. Both side will be happy - or at least not disappointed with the way the game went. Ulster will be very happy that they played their first game in Ravenhill because it took them awhile to get into it. They are still getting their players back - Ruan Piennaar I imagine will start next week and once they get a bit of momentum developing, I expect they will be a much stronger team. They are capable of a much stronger performance next week - and they will need one against Montpellier if they are to get anything there. Treviso 10 - 27 Montpellier Nick Kennedy: Montpellier are just hovering under the radar at the moment but they are currently top of the French league. Their No.9 Jonathan Pelissie cannot stop scoring at the moment - he has real pace and is a real danger around the ruck. Ulster are going to have to try and stop him next week if they are to have any chance if coming away with anything.

POOL 6

Edinburgh Rugby 29 - 23 Munster Rugby Nick Kennedy: Edinburgh are bottom of the Rabo at the moment and no one expected them to pull that performance out of the bag. They have the ability to do that as they play this free-running offloading game and they just went for it. It was a cracking game and a great result for them. Shane Horgan: Munster are in a bit of a tricky position - it is not a disaster as long as Edinburgh keep that form up and take points off Gloucester and Perpignan, their form in the Rabo would suggest that is probably not the case. However the Heineken Cup does funny things to teams and Edinburgh's performance came out of nowhere. Gloucester Rugby 27 - 22 Perpignan Nick Kennedy: Gloucester lost last weekend to Exeter in the Premiership and to lose in front of the Shed is very much frowned upon so to come back and have that sort of performance - especially by the pack was impressive. Their forwards really stood up to a huge Perpignan pack and give Jonny May opportunities to finish of those tries - he did really well. For James Hook to score 22 points by himself is phenomenal but to still be on the losing side was a testament to how well Gloucester did
