Freddie Burns has called on England to 'stop the rot' against Ireland

England need to "stop the rot" against Ireland in their Six Nations clash, according to Bath fly-half Freddie Burns.

Eddie Jones' side come into the match following back-to-back defeats at the hands of Scotland and France.

On Wednesday, footage emerged of Jones referring to Ireland as the "scummy Irish" and Wales as a "little s*** place".

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Burns said: "I think we all agree it probably wasn't the right thing to say.

"But England have a huge task ahead of them at the weekend to stop the rot of three losses in a row and to really put in a performance as they have not performed in the last few games.

"Was it the right thing to say? Probably not but they move on and the whole team need to get behind him [Jones] and support him and just pull out a big performance on the weekend."

The RFU confirmed they will not open disciplinary actions against Jones with the head coach apologising for his comments on Wednesday.

England will be hoping to deny Ireland a Grand Slam at Twickenham on Saturday and Burns has called on Jones' side pull together to achieve that aim as they continue to build towards Japan 2019.

"They are on a journey to the Rugby World Cup," he added.

"That group of players and that coaching set-up will stay together and I think it is all about just backing each other, staying tight together and pulling out a big performance at the weekend."
