However, he has now been released from hospital and, following further assessment by the England medical team at Pennyhill Park on Sunday morning, the 27-year-old has returned to his club.
A Rugby Football Union statement read: "Dylan has been discharged into the care of Northampton.
"He will require a few days' rest and will be re-assessed by his club's medical team next week."
Hartley won his 50th cap against the All Blacks at Twickenham and impressed as England fought back well, having trailed 17-3 early on.
However, he was injured while making a tackle in the 52nd minute and had to be replaced by Tom Youngs.
And, although they edged into a 22-20 lead soon after Hartley's departure, the hosts could not quite sustain their revival, and ended up losing 30-22.
