Six Nations: England retain same team for Calcutta Cup showdown with Scotland

England name an unchanged starting XV for the Six Nations clash with Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday.

Last Updated: 06/02/14 5:28pm

England coach Stuart Lancaster had already revealed that his squad for the game would be the same as that he named for the 26-24 opening-game defeat in France last weekend.

He has now confirmed the same side will line up, along with an identical replacements bench, in Edinburgh.

Lancaster's only outstanding personnel concerns from the game in Paris were the injuries sustained by lock Courtney Lawes and wing Jonny May.

However, Lawes' cheekbone damage was revealed to be only bruising and he was quickly cleared to play, while May was passed fit to continue on the left wing soon after having incurred a fractured nose.

Centre Luther Burrell and right wing Jack Nowell make their second Test appearances.

Wasps prop Matt Mullan will travel to Edinburgh as the 24th man.

Motivated

"It's good to be able to select the same players and they are all determined to put last week's result behind them and build on the performance," Lancaster said.

"Scotland will be hugely motivated by their defeat in Dublin (where they lost 28-6 to Ireland) and, as we found two years ago, Murrayfield is a tough place to play."

England are looking to avoid a third successive Test defeat on Saturday having lost to France and 30-22 to New Zealand in the autumn.

The weight of history is in their favour, though, as they have not won the Calcutta Cup since 2008, although they did claim a 15-15 draw in 2010.

England: Brown, Nowell, Burrell, Twelvetrees, May, Farrell, Care; Marler, Hartley, Cole, Launchbury, Lawes, Wood, Robshaw, B Vunipola.

Replacements: T Youngs, M Vunipola, Thomas, Attwood, Morgan, Dickson, Barritt, Goode.
