With the British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand edging ever closer, Warren Gatland gives his views on the autumn internationals and looks at how they could alter his selection decisions.

England's unbeaten 2016, Ireland's historic win over New Zealand in Chicago, Wales' defeat of South Africa and Scotland's impressive performance to push Australia all the way in Murrayfield has ensure it has been a series to remember.

With all things international wrapped up until the Six Nations commences on February 6, attentions turn to the upcoming British and Irish Lions tour and all the debate that it brings.

Live Lions Special

Speaking before Thursday's 'Live Lions Special' on Sky Sports 1 HD from 7pm, Gatland said: "If you look back on the autumn and the history the southern hemisphere have usually come up here and dominated the northern hemisphere.

From that point of view I think you have got to take a lot of confidence out of the performances and the results of the northern hemisphere teams. I think it is absolutely outstanding and we can take a lot of confidence from some of those performances."
