Frikkie Welsh has confirmed that his thigh injury is less serious than first feared.
Frikkie Welsh could be a surprise contender for a place in the Bath starting line-up, after his injury was confirmed to be less serious than first thought.
The thrusting wing was forced off in the Powergen Cup victory against Ospreys, with fears immediately turning towards the troublesome thigh that ravaged the majority of Welsh's previous campaign.
However, a week can sometimes be a long time in the world of rugby, and the 26-year-old believes that he could be fit if called upon for the derby clash with Gloucester.
"It is looking good at the moment. The thigh is not too bad and I may well be okay for the weekend," revealed the South African.
The news will be welcome relief for Bath, who have suffered several injuries to their widemen this season, with new signing Michael Stephenson's debut still over two weeks away.
Joe Maddock and Lee Best should also be in the frame for a Recreation Ground return on Saturday, after coming through a Guinness A league game unscathed.
