Nick Walshe and John Muggleton have joined the coaching staff of Aviva Premiership side Gloucester ahead of the 2014/15 season.

Walshe is the club’s new backs and attack coach while Muggleton takes on the role of defence coach.

Walshe, 39, is a former scrum-half who coached the England U20s side to back-to-back IRB Junior World Championship titles in 2013 and 2014.

He has also played for Premiership sides Harlequins, Saracens, Sale, Bath and Bedford.

Muggleton, 54, played international rugby league for Australia and was part of their 1982 ‘Invincibles' which won all 22 of their fixtures when touring England and France.

Progress

He spent 10 years as defence coach for the Wallabies which included their World Cup triumph of 1999 and has also worked with the Scarlets and Melbourne Rebels.

Gloucester chief executive Stephen Vaughan said: "I'm delighted that John and Nick are joining us as we prepare for the forthcoming season.

"I make no apology for the fact that we've taken our time with these appointments but we wanted to make sure we got absolutely the right individuals in place and that can take time.

"John possesses a wealth of defensive knowhow while Nick is one of the brightest young coaching talents around.

"There are obviously still other appointments to be made but we're making real progress and hope to be able to make some further announcements soon. I'm delighted with how things are shaping up."
