The New Zealand-born prop has been a key figure at Welford Road since arriving from Albi in 2007, with Stankovich going on to play 102 times.
However the 33-year-old has endured a frustrating 2012-13 campaign, with shoulder and Achilles injuries limiting him to just nine appearances.
Stankovich had set his sights on returning to action next season but having now returned to training, the former England Under-21s international says he would happily stepped up if the Tigers need him during their title bid.
"It has been a rough season in terms of injuries," Stankovich told Sky Sports.
"I am not getting any younger so it takes time to recover.
"I missed pre-season after having had shoulder reconstruction surgery and then three or four months back I unfortunately suffered an Achilles problem.
"The injury had counted me out, I had written off the season with a view of being fully fit next season. With Marcos set to be away with Argentina it is imperative that we have front row cover but, god forbid we get any injuries, I would love to be out there for the play-offs.
"A lot would obviously depend on the injury as I only started training with the boys again this week but I'd love to be involved if I can and if I am needed."
