Bath tighthead prop Kane Palma-Newport has signed a two-year contract extension with the Aviva Premiership club.

The 25-year-old was born in the city and rose through the Academy, making his Premiership debut in the 2010/11 season as a substitute against Newcastle.

"I'm delighted to be spending the next two years here at Bath," he said in a statement on the club's website

"This is my hometown and I am honoured to have the ability to go out and represent it, and the local support I have received over the years made the decision incredibly easy.

"I have worked hard over the last couple of years to develop myself on and off the field and am very excited to continue doing so."

Palma-Newport is approaching 60 appearances in the Blue, Black and White - having spent successful loan spells in the Championship with both Leeds Carnegie and London Welsh.

He also captained the Bath United side that lifted the 2013 Aviva A League trophy, beating Northampton Wanderers at Franklin's Gardens in the final.

Neal Hatley, Bath's first team coach, added: "Kane's developing into a very good player who has benefited from some invaluable experience during his time here, despite still being a young prop.

"He's a local boy who understands the essence of Bath Rugby, which makes him an asset to the team."

Bath, who have won two out of their last three Premiership games, including last Friday's 21-19 defeat of Newcastle at the Rec, travel to Gloucester for a West Country derby on Saturday.
